Craig Smith graduated from Indiana State University, located in Terre Haute, in 1973. He entered the investment management and financial services industry later that same year. In 1983, Craig formed what is now Sycamore Financial Group. A Certified Financial Planner, Craig opened a branch office in Anderson (Indiana) in 1985. Craig is the General Securities Principal and Operations Principal for Sycamore Financial Group; the firm offers Individual and Institutional portfolio management through separately managed accounts. As an investment manager with experience in bull and bear markets, Craig seeks steady long-term profitability for his clients. Potential investments must have strong fundamentals and sound management. At the end of the day, there’s no substitute for running the numbers. Craig pays no attention to the latest hocus pocus, which includes – but isn’t limited to – market timing tactical management or chasing the latest bubble.
Craig considers the long-term relationships that he has had with his clients to be one of his greatest professional achievements. Many of Craig’s clients have been with the Sycamore Financial Group for twenty or thirty years. It’s not uncommon to find three generations of the same family working with Craig to establish a comprehensive plan for the successful transfer of wealth. His professional longevity also means that he has earned the trust and respect of other professionals within the financial services industry.
Craig’s has co-written two financial workbooks, Smart Ways To Pay For a College Education (1990) and Destination Retirement – More For Today and More For Tomorrow (1994), to aid clients who prefer a more hand-on approach to investing. These workbooks are an excellent way for younger investors to better understand how to realize specific financial goals. Craig is an accomplished public speaker and conducts many financial seminars throughout Central Indiana. Workshops hosted by Sycamore Financial Group cover a wide range of financial topics including investment strategies, retirement planning, estate structure and tax reduction opportunities.
Craig lives in Kokomo Indiana with his wife Susan and has two children, Phillip and Alec. For recreation he enjoys flying the Mooney, snowboarding, participating in triathlons and mountaineering.
